My true passion has always been helping women.
During my 20 years at The Texas Medical Center, I poured myself into doing just that as an obstetrician, gynecologist, and gynecologic surgeon.
I helped women through every phase of reproduction, from puberty, through childbirth, and finally to menopause.
Despite being in the largest medical center in the world, I saw that there wasn’t a single practitioner who focused specifically on menopause. That’s what made me realize that menopause is the most neglected topic on Earth! I knew then I wanted to do something to change the state of affairs on menopause.
But that’s when everything changed.
In 2001, my career came to a screeching halt when a diagnosis of severe arthritis forced me to retire — and face a high probability of disability.

Having lived in various countries as a child, I decided to live abroad some more while I still could. From 2004 until 2017, I moved to a different country each year, studied multiple languages, and lived among women from many different walks of life, which I had been unable to do when my life was dedicated to my practice.
What I saw was – despite how pervasively, negatively, and catastrophically menopause impacted their daily lives — it was as neglected in the lay community as it was in the medical profession. So I decided to give menopause the attention it deserves and give all women the menopause education they deserve.
